range of other conditions, including Another important aspect in its distribution is that it is highly bound to psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis, and erythrocytes and plasma lipoproteins. At low blood concentrations (below asthma 80 nmolIl (100 ng/ml)) and when the packed cell volume is low (for example, in patients with kidney failure) the contribution of the plasma bound fraction becomes more important to the disposition of the drug. Cyclosporin is metabolised in the liver and its clearance may therefore be reduced in patients with liver disease. Both cyclosporin and its metabolites are excreted in bile and little cyclosporin appears in the urine. Thus renal impairment does not alter the elimination of cyclosporin.

Differential sensitivities of the human ATP-binding cassette transporters ABCG2 and P-glycoprotein to cyclosporin A.
Several ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters can confer multidrug resistance to cancer cells by functioning as energy-dependent efflux pumps. The half-transporter ABCG2 and the widely studied P-glycoprotein (P-gp) are two ABC transporters that, when overexpressed, are capable of extruding a variety of structurally unrelated chemotherapy agents from cells. In this study, we demonstrate that h...

The selection pressure for resistance to chemotherapy is accompanied by the enhanced expression of ABC proteins and increased cellular glycosphingolipid content. Thus, a possible connection between glycosphingolipid metabolism and ABC proteins in drug resistance has been suggested. In the present study, we established two human multidrug-resistant (MDR) cell lines derived from MESSA sarcoma cel...
متن کاملDistinct inhibitory effects of tacrolimus and cyclosporin a on calcineurin phosphatase activity.
We have compared the pharmacodynamic properties of calcineurin inhibitors tacrolimus and cyclosporin A in rats to clarify the different therapeutic drug monitoring strategy of both drugs in a clinical situation. In various tissue extracts, the inhibition of calcineurin activity by cyclosporin A was significantly greater than that by tacrolimus at the same drug concentration (1 microM) in the th...
متن کاملAssociation of Sebaceous gland hyperplasia, Wart, Syringoma and irritation Fibroma in a kidney transplant patient receiving long term Cyclosporin and Azathioprine
Cyclosporin and azathioprine are immunosuppressive drugs, used widely in kidney transplant patients. A significant association between immunosuppressive therapy and multiple warts was described several years ago. There are also some reports of sebaceous gland hyperplasia in kidney transplant patients receiving cyclosporin. We report herein a 57-year-old woman who developed multiple warts on her...
